The Pomarkku church village, with its old buildings and beautiful rapids, has been highlighted as the most beautiful church village in Finland. The Finnish National Board of Antiquities has assessed the Pomarkku church village as a nationally significant built cultural environment, and it is one of the best-preserved rural settlements in our country. The church village was also awarded the SAFA Prize by the Finnish Association of Architects in 1982.
Two magnificent churches stand in the center of the village. The old wooden church, built in 1802, is a valuable sight, having been restored to preserve its unique wall paintings and pulpit. Construction of the beautiful stone church began in 1921. Both churches in Pomarkku are part of the road church network and are open to tourists from June to August.
