Honkakoski village

The 300-year-old village of Honkakoski. The landscape of the village is beautiful and hilly. The scenic river that runs through the village adds richness to the landscape.

In the summer, many "granny cottages" are used by summer residents, and additional people are also brought in by the summer settlement on the shores of nearby Lake Valkjärvi. The village school offers a good setting for joint gatherings. The largest age group of residents is made up of those of working age in the family.

The economic structure in Honkakoski is very diverse, including industrial workers.

Honkakoski is located in the northeastern part of Pomarkku municipality along Taidetie 23, approximately 38 kilometers from Pori and approximately 17 kilometers from Kankaanpää.

Thanks to bus traffic, our village has good connections to larger cities.

The landscape is a field landscape crossed by a river. The village road is Honkakoskentie, along which there are many settlements and also a village school.

The villages of Laitila and Tuunajärvi

The villages of Laitila and Tuunajärvi are a village community with fewer than 100 inhabitants. The distance to the center of Pomarkku is 17 kilometers. From Highway 23, the distance to Laitila-Tuunajärvi is about ten kilometers, and from Pohjanmaantie to Lavia, the distance is just over twenty kilometers.

The names of the villages come from the farms of Laitila and Tuuna, which were the first to be located in the area. Nowadays, people usually only speak of one village. The division into Laitila and Tuunajärvi is mainly administrative, for example due to the land register. The settlement has been evenly distributed throughout the large village area since the 1600th century. Despite the long distances, the atmosphere of the village is close-knit and warm, which is due to the unparalleled community spirit.

A small farmers' association (registered in 1963) has been active in the village for almost 100 years. The association, which is ahead of its time, serves the needs of the villagers with its modern range of machinery. The Laitila-Tuunajärvi Village Association, registered in 1980, has built a multi-purpose building in the middle of the village as the focal point of its activities. The building, which was created in the 1980s as a result of a spirit of collaboration, is in use every week, both on weekdays and on holidays.

The old lake, located in the middle of the village, can still be seen in the village logo, which speaks of the fertility of the land and the presence of nature. The village emblem can be found, among other things, in the village's own flag. Today, the lake has shrunk into a river that cuts through the beautifully rolling landscape of northern Satakunta. In addition to water bodies, the deep green forest is colored by steep cliffs and damp bogs, which together offer good opportunities for hunting and fishing.

The efforts of our ancestors are still present in the cultural landscape, where old barns and residential buildings are located near meadows and fields. Well-maintained idyllic private roads wind from one house to another. The empty granny cottages have become summer residents who want to relax in the peace of the countryside amidst pure nature. Many people who have lived in the city for their entire lives have also found the village a good place to live, and have moved to the country without prejudice for a less stressful and more communal life.
