The opening week of the Sievari sorting station in Harjavalta went well. The new self-service station aroused interest even before the actual opening: around 200 residents of the sorting station in Etkoi visited the new station. At the opening ceremony, Harjavalta Mayor Olli Luoma and the Chairman of the Board of the Collection Agency Anssi Salmi cut the ribbon in honor of the opening of the new sorting station.

The sorting station, which serves the residents of Kokemäki, Nakkila and Harjavalta, complements the service network in the southern area of the Collection Center, as there has previously been no sorting station in the area. “In general, the operation has started well and the feedback we have received has been positive. The sorting station has been considered great and the instructions clear. The self-service system has also been found to be easy, it works much like any online store. In addition, the opening hours have been praised, as waste can now be brought in every weekday from 9 am to 18 pm,” says Paula Kangasniemi, Communications Manager at the Collection Center.

Personal customer service is also valued, which was reflected in the number of visitors on Thursday. On Thursdays, a customer service representative is on site from 14 p.m. to 18 p.m. to register the waste brought in by customers. On Thursday of the opening week, approximately 50 visitors were registered at the sorting station.

During self-service hours, the sorting station is monitored by cameras. During the first week
"During self-service hours, waste has generally gone to the right places. There have been minor challenges, mainly in sorting electrical and electronic waste, or WEEE. There are several reception areas at the station for electrical and electronic waste, and the instructions on the signs have not always been read carefully enough. As a result, small WEEE devices have ended up in the wrong place. So we are improving the WEEE sorting instructions," Kangasniemi says.

Paula Kangasniemi also reminds us about safety when doing business at the sorting station. “It is a good idea to keep small children in the car while doing business at the sorting station, as there are many dangerous places at the sorting station: the station is occasionally crowded, the waste platforms are located lower and there is hazardous waste in the area. For safety reasons, it is important to be careful and follow the instructions given when moving around the area,” Kangasniemi reminds us.

You can get guidance and support for self-service from customer service and by visiting the sorting station via the Collection website. FROM HEREHere you can find, among other things, a video introducing the station and an instructional video for self-service transactions.
