The 2026-2027 school year will begin at Pomarkku Upper Secondary School on Wednesday, August 12, 2027 at 9:15 a.m. New students will gather in the lower yard (in the upper hall in case of rain) and parents in their home classrooms. The first day will end at 12:30 p.m.

Pomarkku High School is a small, lively and traditional upper secondary school in the centre of Pomarkku, with good transport connections. The school offers individual teaching in moderately sized groups and modern facilities.

Pomarkku Upper Secondary School naturally provides textbooks and laptops for students to use during their high school years. After graduation You can redeem the machine for your own. at a reasonable price. In Pomarkku we mainly use real paper books, which have proven to be more effective than the electronic versions, according to our students. And of course, the books are also available for preparing for the matriculation exams.

School days Efforts are being made to arrange bus schedules so that they fit in with working hours as well as possible. Those who attended comprehensive schools in Pomarkku municipality will continue to use the same services in high school.

The high school also offers A 1000 euro incentive scholarship for every student at our school who receives a cap, who has started their studies in the fall of 2024 or later.

Our students come mainly from the Pomarkku and Noormarkku areas. The admission threshold is a grade point average of 7.0. For justified reasons, the principal may decide to make a decision regarding the grade point average. You can also inquire about a study place during the academic year.

Wilma ID creation instructions for guardians can be found from the schools' common page (scroll down the page a lot). New students will be given their IDs at the beginning of the autumn. The IDs of old students and guardians will of course still be valid.

The operator on the Pori - Pomarkku - Kankaanpää route is A. Lamminmäki and the travel app is Seutu+. This should be noted when downloading the app.

Note: Kela will be performing production updates to its systems on Tuesday, August 11.8, which may cause outages, specifically in the school travel allowance purchase right service. The updates are scheduled for the morning, but as unexpected disruptions can always occur in technology, it is advisable to be prepared for outages throughout the day.

Kela grants school travel allowance to upper secondary school students who have a long commute to school. School travel allowance can be applied for electronically in OmaKela. In order for a student to apply for the allowance electronically, he or she must log in to OmaKela with strong identification. The student must obtain online banking credentials or a mobile certificate well in advance of applying for the allowance. On the Seutu+ routes The Waltti mode of transport function is used and the mode of travel must be selected as “public transport”. Waltti is also selected as the ticket seller. In this case, the Waltti purchase right is used. The ticket product is either Pori1 or Kankaanpää1. More detailed Seutu+ instructions can be found on the Seutu+ website.

A student can purchase a subsidized ticket after submitting an application for school travel support using the above methods.  According to KELA instructions in accordance with the requirements. The Waltti ticket is therefore selected for the application. Note, The ticket is valid for 30 days from the date of purchase., meaning that you should only buy tickets at the last minute. There is a limited number of purchase rights available each year, meaning that there will not be enough tickets for the end of the academic year if they are purchased in advance.

In the table, the marking 1,25 is one 57-minute hour per week, 2,5 is two hours, 3,75 is three, and 5 is four 57-minute hours.

A one-credit module consists of two lessons and a two-credit module consists of four. A three-credit module can be marked up to 7,5, in which case the entire module is studied in the same period. However, some three-credit modules are divided into two periods.

There are several traditional celebrations in upper secondary education, such as Christmas, Spring and Independence Day. These joint celebrations are the end of the school year and other joint events that are intended for all students. These celebrations are not religious events, and no alternative events are arranged for them. The education organizers and schools decide in more detail about the celebrations and their content.

Joint celebrations may also include some elements referring to religion. According to the view of the Constitutional Law Committee of the Parliament, such celebration traditions are part of the Finnish cultural tradition (GUIDE 7 (12) 19.9.2022 OPH-3903-2022). According to the committee's report, due to the singing of a single hymn that may be included in the celebration, the celebration cannot be considered an occasion for practicing religion in the name of religious tolerance. According to the Constitutional Law Committee, traditional school celebrations may also include other similar traditions that are of religious origin in themselves. (Report of the PL Committee 10/2002 vp. and 2/2014 vp. and 16/2021 vp.)

The starting point in upper secondary education is respect for life and human rights. The aim of upper secondary education is to support the balanced mental, physical and social growth of students and to promote respect for life, human rights, sustainable development, the environment and cultural diversity [VNA on Upper Secondary Education (810/2018), Section 1, Subsection 1]. These goals should also be the starting point in the preservation and development of Finnish festive heritage related to education.

The education providers may decide whether religious events and ceremonies, such as church services, religious opening ceremonies or other activities with religious content, are organised in connection with upper secondary education. Religious events and ceremonies include the practice of religion. According to Section 11(2) of the Constitution, freedom of religion and conscience includes the right to profess and practice religion, the right to express one’s convictions and the right to belong or not to belong to a religious community. No one is obliged to participate in the practice of religion contrary to one’s conscience.

Based on the latter, a student cannot be obliged to participate in a church service, religious opening or other religious event or ceremony. The freedom not to participate in a religious event or ceremony is independent of membership in a religious community. Accordingly, those belonging to a particular religious community cannot be obliged to participate in religious events and ceremonies organized by the relevant religious community or the education provider itself.

The student shall declare whether he or she will participate in religious events and services or in alternative activities. The student may declare for the time being all religious events or, if he or she wishes, he or she may declare the matter on a case-by-case basis. The student may change his or her declaration later. The form of the declaration shall be decided by the education provider. After declaring, the student has the right and obligation to participate in the religious event or service or in alternative activities in accordance with his or her declaration.

Religious events and services are organized separately from other activities and are announced in advance. The content of school opening days is limited so that they are not religious events. Visits to religious communities are carried out using the same principles.
