School day

The school day at our school takes place between 8.30:14.30 and 45:30. Lessons are 10.00 minutes long. The first two lessons in the morning are held together, and after them there is a daily 10.15-minute sports break (11.15:1-3:12.15). We eat in two shifts: at 4:6 the XNUMXst-XNUMXrd graders eat and at XNUMX:XNUMX the XNUMXth-XNUMXth graders eat. The students are given a timetable on the first day of school. Parents can also see the timetable in Wilma.

Textbooks

Due to cost-cutting measures, students do not receive new books for all subjects every year. Students should be stressed that they are responsible for the condition of their own books so that the next student receives a school book in good condition and clean. Taking care of shared books is also educationally important; it is good to learn to take responsibility for one's own and society's property at a young age. A student must purchase a new book to replace a damaged or lost school book. The same applies to lost notebooks.

Instructions for physical education classes

According to the instructions of the Finnish National Board of Education, students must have appropriate equipment for physical education classes: a tracksuit or similar and sports slippers for outdoor exercise, and a sports uniform + indoor slippers for indoor exercise, and a towel for washing.

For winter sports, we ask that students purchase well-sharpened skates, warm outdoor clothing, and skis. The school has a limited amount of loan equipment, the suitability of which cannot be guaranteed. We hope that in this way, together with parents, we can create healthy and lasting exercise habits for children for life.

A student may be exempted from physical education if they have a certificate from a nurse or doctor. In this case, if the lesson is a day away, they do not have to attend the lesson if this is agreed with the guardian. In other cases (e.g. minor strain injury, after-effects of illness, etc.), the student participates according to their condition or follows the physical education lesson. A convalescent who has been absent for a long time may also be given permission to do other tasks.

School trips

School transport

The school office, i.e. the director of education, is responsible for school transportation. If a student does not need transportation due to illness or other sudden reason, the taxi driver is notified directly from home! In non-emergency cases, the instructor responsible for transportation, Senja Inberg (041 732 4175), is always contacted. Transportation for exceptional school days is arranged by the school.

School transport is arranged in accordance with the Comprehensive School Act for those students whose journey to school is over 5 km. In addition, Pomarkku municipality also offers school transport to those 1st-4th grade students whose distance to school is more than 3 km. Transport can also be arranged due to the dangerousness of the road (mainly Valtatie 23 for all and a section of Pitkäkuja for 1st-2nd grade students) by a separate decision of the board, even if the distance to school is less than 3 or 5 km. Transport requests are made at Wilma. Transport can also be granted to students who need special support, depending on the case.

Cycling

Those who ride bicycles to and from school must wear a helmet. (A helmet is of course also mandatory when riding during the school day!) The bicycle must be in the condition required by Finnish law and regulations. We do not recommend bicycles for first graders for school trips, especially during the fall semester and after dark.

Student pickup and drop-off

Parents should take into account the one-way nature of Koulutie (NOTE: traffic signs!) so that incoming traffic comes from Harjantie to Koulutie and leaves on Vanhalleti. In other words, the traffic flow is from south to north, in the direction of Hakalinna. Children can be dropped off/picked up at the foot of the large fir tree or afterwards in front of the cafeteria. By doing this, U-turns do not increase the risk of accidents, and children do not have to swerve between cars and accidents are avoided in the future. Do not park near bike racks!

Waiting hours

If a student has to wait for an hour or hours during the transportation period, they will be notified home. Waiting hours for school transportation can be spent in a supervised environment. If a student is not waiting for a taxi under supervision, a notification must be received from the parents.

Wanderings

According to the curriculum, trips, familiarization visits and also camp schools can be organized for different classes. According to the instructions of the Finnish National Board of Education, these events can be supported by funds collected jointly and voluntarily by students and guardians. Every student has the opportunity to participate in trips and other events regardless of whether their guardian has participated in the fundraising.

Special diets

Comprehensive special education

The general special education teacher at Kirkonkylä School is Maarit Rintala.

Comprehensive special education is part of the school's operations and applies to all students. The teaching takes place as individual or small group teaching in a special education room or as simultaneous teaching with differentiated teaching in the student's own class. Comprehensive special education can also be provided outside the student's class hours, if so agreed.

Small group teaching

Kirkonkylä School has two small groups. Students studying in small groups have a decision on student-specific support measures, which defines the student's personal goals, teaching methods, assessment and learning support measures. Sonja Myllykoski teaches the small group of children, or small group one, and Heli Sileäkangas teaches the large group of children, or small group two.

Attendance counselors

School attendance counselors support teaching. The work involves guiding learning situations according to the instructions given by the teacher, either independently with the children or as a working partner with the teacher. The job description depends on the group in which the counselor works. The age and learning abilities of the students affect the work tasks. The goal of the work is to support the students' growth and act as a link between the teacher and the student. Each counselor has their own different job description and adult responsibility for the child. The counselor's task is to support and help the student in those activities that the child finds difficult to cope with on his or her own.

Support teaching

Remedial teaching is a form of differentiation characterized by individual tasks, individual use of time, and guidance. Remedial teaching is provided outside the student's lessons, but sometimes rarely during them. Remedial teaching is the student's right and obligation. The student must participate in the announced remedial teaching. Parents are responsible for the need for remedial teaching arising from a family vacation outside of school holidays.

Lost and found items

• We ask to name your children's clothes.
• Lost clothes and belongings can be found in the lost clothing boxes on each floor or by asking the cleaner.

Note! Cell phones are at your own risk at school. Phones may not be seen or heard at school without special permission.

The purpose of the rules of order is to promote internal order in the school, the smooth running of studies, and the safety and comfort of the school community.

The rules of conduct are valid during school hours, on school grounds, at events organized by the school, on school trips and excursions. In matters not specifically mentioned, general legislation and good customs are followed.

School time is a working day according to the work schedule, which also includes events organized by the school in and outside of school after regular working hours. School time includes the journey to school if the student comes directly from home to school and goes home directly from school.

RULES OF THE KIRKONKYLÄ SCHOOL

Every student has the right to receive education in accordance with the curriculum. The student is obliged to participate in education until the compulsory education period has been completed, unless he or she has been granted permission to be absent. The guardian of a student subject to compulsory education must ensure that the compulsory education period is completed (PoL, Section 45).

1§ I behave kindly, I am fair and honest

– Everyone has the right to feel emotionally and physically safe. Bullying and emotional or physical violence are not permitted at school. Bullying should be reported immediately to a teacher or other school staff member.

– Other people are helped, thanked and encouraged. Everyone contributes to the safety and comfort of others through their own actions.

– At school, greetings are exchanged and appropriate language is used.

– At school, students dress appropriately. No headgear is worn indoors and outerwear is left on hangers during lessons.

2§ I will ensure peace in studying and working

– Arrive for class on time with study materials and homework completed.

– Everyone has the right to work without interruption: students to learn, teachers to teach, other personnel to do their work.

– A teacher has the right to take possession of an object or substance with which a student disrupts teaching or learning (PoL § 29).

3§ I respect my own property, that of others and that of the school.

– Everyone has the right to the inviolability of their property.

– Private property at school is the responsibility of its owner.

– Everyone has a duty to treat school property and school furniture with care.

– Everyone takes care of their own textbooks and study materials.

– Any damage caused must be reported immediately to the principal, vice principal or teacher.

– Everyone is liable for compensation for damage caused intentionally (Damages Act 412/749).

4§ I make recess a nice break

– Breaks are held in the yard area reserved for break times. The school grounds also include the school building and the craft hall. Students are allowed to be inside if they have special permission. Students on transportation can spend the waiting time in a pre-announced location.

– We move calmly both indoors and outdoors, and we do not ride bicycles during the school day.

– Throwing snowballs, stones, etc. is prohibited.

– The school and school grounds are kept clean.

– Breaks are held in the school's break area.

– During recess, I don't hide behind the ball wall or the skating booths from the recess supervisor.

– During outdoor recess, students leave promptly without being prompted and return immediately when the bell rings. Recess equipment is returned to its designated place after each recess.

5§ I will not bring tobacco, intoxicants, or dangerous substances or objects to school or the school grounds.

– The possession and use of tobacco products, intoxicants and dangerous objects at school is prohibited. If necessary, the teacher and the principal have the right to take possession of a prohibited or dangerous object and check the student's belongings to find them (PoL 36 d§). Found intoxicants and dangerous objects are delivered to the principal and then handed over to the student's guardians or the police.

– Bringing energy drinks to school is prohibited and sweets are only eaten at school during pre-arranged times.

6§ My phone and other devices do not disturb

– Phones and other electronic devices are kept on silent during lessons and are used during lessons for learning purposes according to the teacher's instructions.

– The phone is kept in the student's backpack during the school day.

– The phone is not used during breaks either, but rather the company of other students is enjoyed.

– You can ask the teacher for permission to use a mobile phone for private purposes (e.g. mandatory calls home or health purposes).

– Any kind of independent recording during school hours without permission is prohibited.

• I act responsibly on social media and treat others the way I would like to be treated.

7§ I eat calmly and cleanly

– No one gets priority in the food line. You take as much food as you can eat and even the strangest foods you try at least a tablespoon.

– Good table manners are observed when eating.

After eating, the utensils are taken to the return locations and it is ensured that the dining area is left clean.

8§ I will make the school trip safe and undisturbed

– On school trips and when going to sports centers and teaching outside the school, special caution, traffic rules and given instructions are followed.

– Behave appropriately and politely on school transportation.

– Bicycles are only stored in bike racks.

– Sports equipment is stored in designated areas..

9§ Absences

– Students must report their absence from school to the school before the start of the school day. The obligation to report absences already applies to one day Absences. Absences are primarily reported in Wilma. If Wilma is not available, the report should be made to the teacher's office text message cell phone, tel. 044 7602760. The message must include the reason for the absence and the signature of the person reporting the absence.

Extra absence from school:

– maximum three days; request at least one week in advance to the teacher at Wilma Applications.

– more than three days; request at least one week in advance to the principal Wilma at Applications.

Parents are always responsible for the student's education during the holiday trip.

10§ In disciplinary matters, we act in accordance with the law

A student who fails to follow school rules or behaves inappropriately will be directed primarily with an educational discussion (PoL § 35a), the purpose of which is to find positive ways to improve the student's behavior.

A student may be assigned to a parenting discussion if:

1) disrupts teaching or

2) otherwise violates the school's rules or

3) acts fraudulently or

4) treats other students or school staff disrespectfully or in a way that offends their human dignity.

The teacher determines the time of the educational discussion and it may last a maximum of two hours, either at once or in several parts during or outside the school day. The student may be asked to provide a written account of what happened during the discussion and the guardian must be given the opportunity to participate in the discussion. In addition to the student, school staff who are involved in the student's education or student welfare may participate in the educational discussion.

A student who disrupts instruction, violates the rules of order, or acts fraudulently may also be ordered to: to the follow-up session for a maximum of two hours or he may be given written warning. The teacher decides on the appointment of a follow-up session and informs the guardian. The student and guardian are heard before a written warning or expulsion is given. The principal issues a written warning. The teacher or principal may order a student who disrupts instruction to to leave for supervised use for the remainder of the lesson from a classroom or other space where instruction is given or from an event organized by a school (PoL Section 36).

If there is a risk that the safety of other students will be affected or teaching will be unreasonably disrupted, the student may be asked to: deny the right to participate in teaching for the remaining working day. The decision is made by the principal and the guardian is notified of the decision.

A serious violation or if a student continues to behave inappropriately after receiving a follow-up session or written warning may result in for separation for a maximum of three months. The decision on dismissal is made by the Education and Training Board (PoL, Section 36).

Disciplinary measures are recorded. In addition to disciplinary measures, the student is provided with the necessary student support.

The Parents' Association works wholeheartedly for the benefit of the children of Kirkonkylä School and uses the funds it collects to enable cultural experiences and class trips for the children.

There are several traditional celebrations in basic education, such as Christmas, Spring and Independence Day. These joint celebrations are the end of the school year celebrations and other joint events intended for all students in accordance with Section 852, Paragraph 1998 of the Basic Education Decree (3/5) (EOAK/2186/2018). These celebrations are not religious events, and no alternative events are arranged for them. The education organizers and schools decide in more detail about the celebrations and their content.
