How did I end up in the countryside?
I'm Marjaana, and I was born in the country and have lived in the countryside and rural towns my whole life. I studied well in a nearby town, and Finland is such a small country that the distances aren't that long. You can easily get to bigger cities from here, but after traveling it's always nice to come back to the peace of the countryside.
I run a care home (www.tilkkutakki.net) and a party and accommodation company (www.villarouhee.fi) in Pomarkku. I am also involved in parenting, organize events and volunteer at the meeting café at Villa Rouhee, where villagers of all ages can meet each other. Life here is communal, unhurried and meaningful – and that is exactly the best thing.
The most wonderful thing about the countryside:
- No rush – no traffic jams, no unnecessary stress.
- Community spirit – people are taken care of here.
- Safety – you can breathe freely on land.
The most terrible in the countryside:
- An army of mosquitoes, midges and midges – nature is wonderful, but it would be even more wonderful without them!
- I can't think of anything else horrible! – and that probably says a lot.
This is how you can get involved in rural life:
If you feel like trying something new and need a new direction in your life, moving to the country could be just the thing. Here you will find much more than you could imagine – things to do, meaningful experiences, and great people.
For me, volunteering is a matter of the heart – when you give joy to others, you get it back many times over. In a small town, you immediately notice its importance. I recommend trying it!
